Can we all move on from the manual v. automatic silliness?

I suppose.

Yes, let's debate FWD-based AWD systems vs. RWD-based ones.

Let's debate anything else.

NEVER! IF YOU SUPPORT AUTOMATICS AND MANUALS AS EQUALS THAN THIS IS YOUR GOD!
Seriously this is all a bit silly. We should value the options we have. In 20 years you'll be lucky to have something that runs on petrol.

I hate RWD based AWD. It is poop and you are poop if you like it. /s

Merits of pocket trumpets vs regular trumpets!
Pocket trumpets win. Because short.

Nope.
Kind of like how the Nazis started that whole world war II thing, it won't end until Hitler has lost, shot himself, and had his reich completely destroyed.
Sort of like how dual clutch boxes have almost completely replaced manual transmissions. Almost. I think this is the battle of the bulge, where the manual transmission enthusiasts are fighting as hard as they can despite being on the losing side for quite some time, but will ultimately see their transmission become a thing of the past.

The pocket trumpet has no merits, because they are the most out of tune little pigs of an instrument that you could imagine. They are terrible. Cute, but terrible.

As a pocket trumpet owner....I agree with this. Their only pro is they look ridiculous.
Pocket trumpet = stanced trumpet.

In seriousness I don't care for rwd based awd because awd makes fwd better. I'd rather just leave my rwd alone. At the end of the day these are silly arguments. A good car is a good car no matter what's in it. If someone comes out with a fwd hatch with a naturally aspirated 1.3l four cylinder and a cvt on skinny all seasons and it's a blast to drive I'll like it.

RWD obviously! FWD based systems have the engine in front of the wheels and therefore all the weight!! They're prone to understeer & anyone who doesn't want oversteer is literally the worst and I hope they DIE.

So you're saying AWD > RWD? The problem I have with RWD based AWD is it takes perfectly good RWD and turns it into AWD for people to scared to drive.

Yeah I remember you saying that at one point. I own one pocket and one regular King. Don't really play the pocket one too often. Picked it up for about $300.

If you pick rwd based awd though you are saying that platform is better than a fwd awd platform when really a rwd awd is a bastardization of a perfectly good rwd car. You are voting in favor of the existence of BMW 330i xDrive. Personally I wish the damn things never existed because every time I look at the BMW dealers in Ohio everything if frickin xDrive.

A (old?) silver flair. I have had it since about 1999 or so. I think it was a few years old at that point.

I'm not that familiar with the King models, but I just did a bit of reading. When you say "old", do you mean the older vintage? Apparently, the old Silver Flairs were pro model horns, while the newer ones are more intermediate models. I've been a Bach/Schilke guy all my life. Never cared much for the Yamaha sound.

Same in Michigan, I get sad because they are always Xdrives or 4Matics.
On the other side though, there is a argument for AWD sometimes.
mcseanerson
> Milky
06/25/2014 at 16:56 | 0 |
Yeah but let's be honest, typically FWD based AWD is lighter and less complex. Who are the most reputable awd manufacturers? Audi and Subaru. How do they do it? FWD based AWD. Plus who whines about a not being able to find a fwd Impreza?
Milky
> mcseanerson
06/25/2014 at 17:05 | 0 |
Ehh, I'd almost lump those two into their own category though because longitudinal engines. IIRC most S/RS Audi's have the rear wheels getting more power too.
I just have a personal vendetta against most things FWD.
(please don't bring up the active tourer thing)

Based on that I think it's a newer version because it's an intermediate horn not a pro horn. I am not sure when that began though. The horn is about 17 years old or so.

In 1985, King was sold, and became a division of United Musical Instruments (UMI). King brand instruments are currently manufactured by Conn-Selmer (which makes Bach brass instruments, and many others). Conn-Selmer is a subsidiary of Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc. So that would put your horn in the "new Silver Flair" category.

actually it's owned by Paulson & co. If the horn has been in the last 12 years it might be from China. This president is moving another plant there next month (the one that makes Armstrong, Vito/Bliss and Musser). yeah American band company pfft!
